The Flag We Shouldn't Be Proud Of

This #WorldSuicidePreventionDay we’re raising awareness of the 2 in 6 young LGBTQ people who attempt suicide by removing 2 stripes from the pride flag that symbolise Life and Harmony. Help us break the silence and prevent these young lives from disappearing @gaytimesmag

The Gate has collaborated (it’s the brainchild of our creative team Rickie and John) with Gay Times Magazine & Switchboard on a project called “The Flag We Shouldn’t Be Proud Of” to raise awareness of the 2 in 6 young LGBTQ people who attempt suicide due to issues with bullying, discrimination, gender identity and mental health.  To do this, we’ve created a ceremonial flag where we’ve removed 2 of the 6 strips from the iconic Pride flag which this year marks its 40th anniversary.  The stripes we’ve removed represent ‘Life’ and ‘Harmony’.

The campaign is backed by Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, and fronted by Olly Alexander of Years & Years.
